English as a Second Language (ESL)
The holistic design of our programs embraces a broad spectrum of needs. The ancient city gate was not only a place where the vulnerable (the widow and orphan) and the poor were to receive justice, but where the foreigner ("sojourner") was to find welcome. In an international city like Washington, our ministry of inclusion and empowerment goes beyond poverty issues. In partnership with Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church in Tenleytown, an affluent Northwest DC neighborhood, adult ESL programs enable us to provide hospitality to those from other countries, build bridges of cultural understanding, and help non–English speakers participate in our community.
