Spanish language and culture lessons at Summer Day Camp 2006
With the help of CommuniKids, children of all ages were blessed with Spanish language programming at least once a week, complete with Hispanic cultural activities, such as visiting the Art Museum of the America and learning to salsa. At the end of the camp, kids at the Johenning Baptist Community Center had a fiesta. Here they made their own soft tacos, listened to Latin music, and got to bust the piñatas that they made themselves.

We were even blessed to have two fluent Spanish speakers on our staff at the Johenning camp: Ms. Sia Boyma, a high school Spanish teacher, and Ms. Sheneka Hairston, who worked for a semester in Ecuador as a social worker.

We must have done a good job, as it took our dedicated teacher's aide, Ms. Jehr'Rhee Frederick, to eventually crack them open! (left)
