Giving Thanks: City Gate Style
Thanksgiving Food Baskets
Outreach Coordinator, Ms. Michell Newby passes out Turkeys with all the trimmings.
With donations from the Capitol Area Food Bank and Poor Robert's Charity, and private individuals, residents of the neighborhood surrounding the Johenning Center were able to receive a turkey and all the ingredients for traditional Thanksgiving side dishes free of charge. Overall, we were able to distribute 86 Thanksgiving baskets of food, 19 grocery store gift cards, 10 bags of groceries, as well as an early Thanksgiving dinner two weeks before the holiday. Currently, we are assembling Christmas Food Baskets, so please consider donating non-perishable item or grocery store gift cards for the holiday season.
After-School Kids Make a Thanksgiving Tree
SaQueena Fields considers the many leaves on the Thanksgiving tree.
Children in the after-school program completed a beautiful "Thanksgiving tree". Using leaves they collected while on a nature walk, they traced the leaves in brown paper, carefully writing something they were thankful for on each one. As you can see, children discovered that they had a lot of blessings!
