Boy Scout Troop #407 Teaches City Gate Kids Camping and Outdoor Skills

Hailing from Richmond, VA, five members of Boy Scout Troop #407 with their leader, Mr. David Miller, and adult volunteer Keith Morauske, came Friday, February 9th to help with the after-school program and demonstrate some fundamental camping and outdoor skills to City Gate children and youth. After a visit to Arlington Cemetery, scouts arrived at the Johenning Center to set up four stations of activities for our after-school participants. The first station taught basic first aid principles, the second involved proper use of a compass, the third demonstrated how to set up and take down and tent, and the forth was crafting a ball using carefully cut paper. Groups of kids rotated through the stations, and learned quite a bit about surviving the outdoors. Later the scouts and adults volunteers shared a table at dinner with our youth, followed by some amazing footwork as the scouts showed off their soccer skills!
