Atlantic Gardens/Southern Hills Newsletter: December 2007
Thanksgiving was, and still is, "Thanks" Giving!
City Gate had its annual Thanksgiving Dinner with the children and their parents/ guardians. Even though the site for us was new, our hearts were just as grateful as they were at the Johenning Center.
We had a great time eating with the parents, staff and students. City Gate solicits the help of parents and friends during these events. Please feel welcome to visit us and see how we operate our program. Pictured at the top is Richaard, giving us his impression of gratefulness.
We wanted to take this opportunity to share some of our Thanksgiving with you and hope that your Thanksgiving was great and full of thankfulness as well. Be Blessed.
Thank you Hall Family for sharing your love and Thanksgiving with us at City Gate.
City Gate's Youth at Washington Wizard's vs. Golden State Warrior's basketball game
Friday, November 23, 2007 City Gate's youth went to support the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center. The youth were excited about the Wizards; they did the wave, clapped their hands, jumped, and shouted out chants to encourage the home team. They drew the attention of the crowd - in a positive way, folks (smile). We had seats up in the rafters, but you would have thought we were front row and center the way our youth were celebrating. I thank God for their excitement and enthusiasm. They represented City Gate in style.
Thank you to Our Parents!
City Gate would like to thank the parents and guardians of our kids. Thank you for allowing your youth to be a part of our family. What we do here at City Gate is a joint effort for not only staff and youth, but also for family and guardians of the youth. Let me take this opportunity to ask parents to please voice your concerns about your child's progress and how we here at City Gate can help. Again, Thanks for all your support.

City Gate has opened a "Youth Internet & Game Lounge"
The Youth Internet & Game Lounge was a success on Friday night. The young people were awaiting the grand opening of the lounge. Ms. Newby wanted to create a place for youth to go where they could have fun in a safe and positive atmosphere. Considering the need of youth to feel belonging and membership, as well as closeness and a lasting relationship with an adult, she developed the concept of the youth internet lounge. She wanted to create a safe haven and outlet for the youth of this community, a place where they can share, cry, embrace, laugh, play and grow not only in their personal relationships with each other, but also in their relationship with the Lord. We understand that youth are faced with all types of challenges and they need someone they can talk with as well as pray with. We believe God has great concern for our young people. We pray that the youth would know that we care and love them. The Youth Internet & Game Lounge is open on Friday nights with some exceptions from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. Please contact Ms. Newby at 202-561-5113 or 202-361-6573. (Age Requirement 12–18 years old)
Give it up for Ms. LaShawna Wills and Ms. Carlissa Mickens for their hard work and dedication. The next time you run into these ladies please let them know what a great job they are doing. Be blessed and enjoy the holidays.
If you would like more information about City Gate and its programming, please give Ms. Newby a call at 202-561-5113/202-361-6573.
