National Baptist Memorial After-school Program
Our After-School Academic Enrichment Program at National Baptist Memorial Church provides homework help, academic tutoring in reading and math, and activities in secondary subjects such as science and art for children 5-13 from 3:15 - 6:15 pm every school day.
Our Columbia Heights program site is located at 1501 Columbia Rd. NW, in the most diverse Ward of our city. Here the poverty rate is 26% (35% for children). 5 of the 8 schools located near NMBC were identified in 2005-2006 as "In Need of Improvement or Corrective Action." Low-income, working parents in the neighborhood are often unable to find quality, affordable care for their children during the after-school hours, therefore our program is completely free and targets children and families living near or below the poverty line.
