- STATISTIC (Insert statistic about the benefits of after-school programming).
In 2006, City Gate integrated environmental learning into our summer day camp a first of its kind in SE DC. We learned then that when done right, science is something kids love to do it plays to their natural curiosity about the world around them. Then in 2008 City Gate began a new after-school "science club" in partnership with Marie Reed Community Learning Center in NW DC. This pilot featured hands-on science experiments for the kids followed by small group sessions of analysis emphasizing building math skills. With more and more success in science club each semester, the program grew. At the request of DCPS administration, it now runs in three locations.
