Northeast Summer Family Literacy
Summer 2009 at our NE Richardson Dwellings site truly contained the whole vision of the city gate: educational opportunities to empower children and adults, food and clothing to meet physical needs, volunteers to share their gifts and talents, and everyone gaining a new perspective on what "ministry" means. In addition to Adult Education for Careers (our adult literacy program), residents worked alongside Urban HANDS groups to provide over 10 weeks of programming, 6,700 meals, and hours of Bible programs, field trips, and special events.
We understand the importance of getting our youth out of doors. Youth expeditions, youth adventures and church youth groups are an important segment of our operation. City Gate sites host a variety of field trips on a weekly basis for youth enrolled in our program to engage in fun, yet simultaneously learning experiences. Urban Hands groups also provide tutorial assistance for our Adult Education for Careers, in the forms of two hour tutorial sessions in reading, writing, social studies, science, and math subject areas.
