As we take on the 2023-2024 school year, we are back in person with live instruction. Our programs our designed to enhance learning with small group interaction combined with personalized intervention so that we can help students close accumulated grade level deficits. Our comprehensive programs lay the framework for school readiness and help students develop skills to ensure academic and life success.
Additionally, we have curated a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) focused curriculum that provides children with hands-on learning, critical thinking skills and future career opportunities.
Lastly, our expeditionary learning grants children the chance to learn on-site. Youth can access important social, cultural, and intellectual capital in order to succeed in school and life. Trips range from indoor (Smithsonian Museums) to outdoor (National Zoo, the Rock Creek Nature Center.)
Summer programs at City Gate provide our DC Youth with in-person and expeditionary learning. We offer English as a Second Language (ESL), Primary Education, Life Success (for middle and high schoolers) and STEAM-focused programming.
We engage parents to remove barriers and support learning in the home. Parents are encouraged to volunteer at the sites with the children to build and develop relationships. Parents are required to meet with the Director before enrollment is completed.
Making sure our children, and our communities stay fed during these times is of the utmost importance. To make sure of this, we have partnered with the US Food Bank to provide daily meals to our students. In addition, we host a food distribution at the Mary Virginia Merrick Center. Our weekly distribution food boxes consist of farm-to-table produce, meat, and dairy.
